Child Care

qathet School District has licensed before and after school child care programs for children in Kindergarten to Grade 5 at Westview Elementary, James Thomson Elementary, Edgehill Elementary and Henderson Elementary. Texada Elementary will be offering morning care for the 2024/25 school year. An independent licensed program is offered at Kelly Creek Community School. 

qathet School District also runs a licensed preschool program, JustB4. Information on the preschool can be found on our Early Learning pages.  

The district has three daycare facilities on school grounds and these centres are run independently by third party operators. Please contact these sites directly if you have any questions regarding care for children 5 and under.

About Before and After School Care

Before and After School child care programs provide care for students in kindergarten through grade five. The students stay in the same welcoming, familiar environment while participating in fun and interactive educational and recreational opportunities. With minimum transitions for the students, they will continue to excel in all aspects of their development even outside school hours.

Fees are generated at the beginning of the month and due by the end of the month. Fees can be paid online through the same esiKidz system that families register with.

All Before & After School Care programs, including Seamless Day Kindergarten are licensed programs and therefore eligible for government subsidies, such as the Affordable Childcare Benefit. Families are encouraged to do online applications for the Affordable Child Care Benefit as the processing time is much faster. Families requesting paper or pdf registrations may need to pick up their copies at their local school or the school board office.

qathet School District is committed to keeping child care affordable for families. If you are ineligible to receive government funding, please email child.care@sd47.bc.ca to discuss other options.

Registration & Space Availability

Registration for all of our child care programs is done through esiKidz which is a multi-functional child care software designed specifically for child care centres within Canada. EsiKidz follows federal and provincial regulations on storing data.

Families are welcome to register at esiKidz for a space in our child care programs at anytime. We use the waitlist to fill spaces as they come available, but it is important to note that being placed on the waitlist does not guarantee a space. 

At the end of June we offer families enrolled in Before and After School Care program the opportunity to keep their spaces for the upcoming school year. Vacant spaces in the child care programs will be offered to families on our waitlist.

Kelly Creek Community School Before and After School Care is managed independently from the school district.

Staffing

All our programs are staffed with caring and qualified staff members who often have other roles within the district such as Educational Assistants and we meet every requirement outlined by the Child Care Facilities Licensing Regulations. Students will always have access to somebody who has a valid First Aid Certificate while in the program.
